Wolf Hounds
A downloadable roleplaying game
“Those that men call Werewolves or Lycanthropes call themselves the Hounds of God, as they claim their transformation is a gift from their creator, and they repay the gift with their tenacity, for they will pursue an evildoer to the very gates of Hell.”
– Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
Wolf Hounds is a historical fantasy roleplaying game about the Benandanti, a pack of werewolves and witches dedicated to protecting their communities from supernatural threats. Uses a lightweight Powered by the Apocalypse system based on John Harper's World of Dungeons: Turbo. You will need a game master, some players, writing materials, and a few six-sided dice.
- Create characters including shapeshifting Hounds, mystical Seers, and intrepid humans.
- Uncover supernatural mysteries, and hunt those that would prey upon the innocent.
- A streamlined PbtA system emphasizes fast dice rolls, teamwork, and player agency.
- Details for players and GMs on the Benandanti, their world, and their adversaries.
- Includes an introductory adventure set in medieval Lithuania.
- Easier to learn than that other werewolf RPG!

Update 9/22/22: Version 1.1 adds three new Talents, minor edits for clarity, and slightly tweaks the intro adventure to fit the new campaign, "Let Us Prey". The campaign book includes four new adventures, plus enemies, allies, and character options.
Important news: If you're reading this, you probably like werewolves. You might not know how much danger real wolves are currently in. In December 2025, the House of Representatives passed H.R.845, a bill that would permanently remove Endangered Species Act protection from gray wolves in the entire United States, and block any legal challenges to reinstate it. This unprecedented bill is now in the Senate, and needless to say, passing it would be a disaster for wolf recovery. Wolves in the US are still very vulnerable, but they've become a political football, their fates written by politicians unqualified to make such decisions.
You can help prevent this by calling or writing to your senator's office and asking them to oppose H.R.845. It passed the House by a narrow margin, so your input can really make a difference, especially if you live in a swing state, or if your senator is on the wildlife subcommittee. Thank you, and enjoy the game.

I loved this game! We played at two-shot with two werewolves and two witches. We ended up tracking down two vampires disguised as priests and also summoned multiple ghosts in the process. My players latched onto the themes of the game from the get go and I really loved the fact that the character sheet has just a few simple stats to keep track of - it made it easy to play for folks who didn't have easy access to a readable character sheet.
You mean your PCs summoned the ghosts? Players always find ways to surprise you, don't they? Accessibility was one of my main design goals, so it's great to hear your group was able to jump into it so easily.
Very nice game, just picked it up so have not had time to test it yet. Love the idea of the game and the cover art by Rozalski is wonderful and spot on.
Thank you for checking out my game! Feel free to leave any comments here, or in the release thread. If you run a game, I'd love to hear how it goes!
